In May 2018, 13 people protesting the ‘polluting’ plant were killed in a police firing. Now, another set of protestors are demanding the plant’s reopening. A feasibility study has recommended the use of recycled copper, the closure of some polluting sections, and the creation of an INR100 crore CSR corpus. However, old countercurrent against the plant remains.
