Indians spend nearly as much as Americans on transportation. Here’s why it’s a worrying sign.

The latest household survey captures the transformation of rural infrastructure through better connectivity and the subsequent rise in spending on transportation. However, as a percentage of non-food consumption, both rural and urban Indian households spent more on travel than on education and healthcare.
